Celebrating Democracy – Together in Freising

by Andreas Malecki

Long Night of Democracy on 2 October 2026

Democracy is far more than a political system. It is community. It thrives on people who take responsibility, get involved, listen, and remain in dialogue with one another. It shows itself not only at elections, but also in volunteer work, in clubs and associations, schools, neighborhoods, and everywhere people actively shape their life together.

The Long Night of Democracy invites you not merely to discuss democracy, but to experience it. Under the leadership of the Treffpunkt Ehrenamt of the City of Freising, more than 50 associations, organizations, religious communities, and schools are joining forces for this event.

On 2 October 2026, they will turn Freising's town center into a place of encounter, exchange, and participation.

Visitors can experience a varied program of conversations, art, music, theatre, hands-on activities, and inspiring encounters. Whether listening, joining the discussion, trying things out, or celebrating – everywhere it will become visible just how vibrant and diverse democracy can be.

Especially at a time when public debate is often marked by division, the Long Night of Democracy creates spaces for exchange, new perspectives, and respectful encounters.

You can find the full program here.

Freisinger Raum der Begegnung will also be taking part that evening. We contribute a rallye on the topic of democracy through the center of Freising.
